Greetings and welcome to another of Marko's little hairballs. It's almost all fluff. There might be a hint of something seriously phlegmy between the pictures. All of it is just an excuse for posting another community open thread.
This weekend and last weekend, Mrs the Werelynx, Fabulous Mother-In-Law and I have been spending some time out in the country.
Saturday morning there was a thin layer of ice in the water barrels.
And frost on the grass and flowers in the yard.
I spent part of the day setting up and firing a little makeshift kiln
The piece I was firing caught a bit of color, but the result was too uneven. Parts of the glaze hadn’t melted properly.
I ended up trying again today. I was too impatient and ended up cracking the pot. Oh well, tomorrow we're supposed to have nice weather, time for a trip and maybe a couple hours of throwing new pots for a proper firing in my wood kiln in the autumn.
This morning I hope we've seen the last frost. The news here is that most of the fruit trees around the Czech Republic lost their blossoms to the frost. The owners of vineyards in Moravia were burning cans of paraffin all night and seemed hopeful that they'd managed to prevent the frost from ruining their crop.
We have a couple apple trees that are late bloomers and there might be some hope of them giving us a few apples this year. But it looks like a disaster for Czech orchards. Insurance agencies refuse to cover frost damage and it may be up to the government to step in.
I'm curious to see what our trees will be up to this year. Maybe our cherries managed to set their fruit? It was a strange April, last week we had snow— that I managed to sleep through. This weekend will be kicking off a couple weeks of above average high temperatures. Sheesh, maybe I will be planting some corn this weekend after all.
Thanks for stopping by.
