And so it begins. Prosecutors tell the jury what they intend to prove ...
Prosecutors accused former President Donald Trump of operating a “criminal conspiracy” to “corrupt” the 2016 election in their opening arguments Monday, as the first criminal trial against the former president got underway in earnest to determine whether he falsified business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
[...]
“This case is about a criminal conspiracy and a coverup,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo told the jury, according to Politico, accusing Trump of “orchestrat[ing] a criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election” and then “lying over and over and over again” to cover up the alleged scheme in his business records.
[...]
Prosecutors, in their opening statement, also alluded to physical evidence that will back up the witness testimony, attesting to Donald Trump’s involvement in this criminal conspiracy.
"Neither Trump nor the Trump Organization could just write a check to Cohen with a memo line that said 'reimbursement for porn star pay-off,'" Colangelo said. "So they agreed to cook the books and make it look like the payment was actually income, payment for services rendered."
Colangelo added that the evidence would show that while Trump is a "very frugal businessman," when it came to reimbursing Cohen, Trump paid him double.
"This might be the only time it ever happened," Colangelo said. Trump's willingness to part with so much cash showed how important it was to him to keep the hush money scheme under wraps, the prosecutor posited.

Not only is it about the conspiracy scheme to corrupt the presidential election, it’s also about the costly cover-up to hide the damning facts that this conspiracy even happened in the first place.
And candidate Trump was in on the conspiracy and cover-up.
So much so, that Donald Trump repeated compensated his lawyer Cohen, for co-coordinating the “catch and kill” scheme(s), by signing those reimbursement checks, after assuming the Office of President.
The newly elected president — by fraudulent means — gladly signed the payoff checks himself, which ensured his campaign was not sunk, by the revelations of his own moral and martial failings.
(Those additional frauds elevate the “falsified business records” violations into Felony territory. See the previous link.)
So much for respecting the solemnity and historic weight of the Office, that Trump lied his way into.
And that was just the beginning of his habitual lying, that the pretend billionaire would routinely blather from the Office — he won by preventing the American people from hearing the whole truth, about his lack of competence and character.

Evidence will show several payoffs checks were made by then-president Trump, to make sure the entire criminal conspiracy stayed under wraps. That Cohen would take the heat.
And yet another grand fraudulent Trump plan unravels, predictably so.
Funny how that not-so-clever cover-up, and the subsequent Cohen conviction, has managed to amplify the “criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election” — for the entire world to now plainly see.
Not exactly something a sane normal candidate would want on his do-over political resume, now is it.
Oh well.
Corrupt is, as corrupt does. And continues to do … “lying over and over and over again” ...
