...with as much class as she brought to the editorial page. None.
She whined about twitter being the editor-in-chief of the NYT, bitched about colleagues who didn’t lap up her every pronouncement with unfeigned glee, and bellyached about what she perceived as “cancel culture”. How awful!
Let’s have a closer look at the record, shall we? As per the usual course with whiny-righties, Weiss projects more than an Imax theater. She started her illustrious career with lies about Arab professors at Columbia who dared voice criticism of Israel. Her columns in the NYT have been misguided at best if not downright lies, and while decrying “cancel culture” she isn’t too keen on having dissenting voices join the party, approving of people being shouted down for their views — that last being a Jewish cartoonist with the audacity to mock Israeli hardliners. And examine one of the people she endorses as being a daring voice of the Dark Intelligentsia, Ayan Hirsi Ali, who promoted Benjamin Netanyahu for the Nobel Peace Prize as a gift for his bombarding Gaza.
This sort of whining about “illiberal campuses” dates back decades to David Horowitz, Brent Bozell, and various Koch-funded outfits which promoted conservative students turning in their professors for “liberal bias” then trying to destroy their careers, but no fulminations were to be heard from Bari as that occurred. Let’s be clear on this point: well before the right started tantrums about “cancel culture being used against brave conservative voices”, they were plenty happy to work on trashing anyone who subscribed to something removed from Republican two minute hates.
As for “special snowflakes”, well, that’s another rightwing project-O-rama. Rarely have I seen people so ready to take massive offence as Republicans told the world might be slightly wider than their blinkered views of it. Anti-war activists? AAH! Gays? AAAAAH!! Muslims? AAAAIIIIEEEEEEE!!!!
One more thing: I’ve found anyone talking about “social justice warriors” in a derogatory sense to be an asshole. No exceptions. I gave a pass, despite a few years of rising red flags, to an old friend of twenty years who started in that direction, and not long afterward he nuked the friendship from orbit. As stated above, no exceptions.
So, yeah, whinyrighties can take their complaints about “cancel culture”, “political correctness”, & “social justice warriors” and cram them right up where the sun don’t shine, where the thousand watt projector bulbs will cast a shadow of their prejudices out of their fundamental apertures onto the wall.
