Finally…. Wasserman of Cook Political Report calls it.
Yeah. Trump needs about 75% of all remaining votes to tie…. Thank God for the call. It’s been obvious for awhile. The remaining votes are more than half in Blue Pima County and Bluish Maricopa.
We have been trending purple for so long. It’s delicious to see AZ blue on the map.
Thank
- Groups such as One Arizona and Ma Familia Vota who have tirelessly worked under the radar for many years to increase registration and participation by Latinos in AZ. To all Mexican-American Dems. THANK YOU
- Native Americans for organizing for a whole year… and turning out despite obstacles. THANK YOU to all indigenous people in AZ!
- The thousands of volunteers around the state who have volunteered for the Dem party, and grassroots groups for months.. or in many cases years. THANK YOU
- Maricopa county for trending blue. THANK YOU
- Pima county for trending even bluer and increasing its presidential margin for Biden by 70% (+40,000 votes) over the Clinton margin in 2016. THANK YOU
- The fabulous hardworking County Recorders and Elections boards
- The activists in AZ who brought us a mandate for paper ballots so elections are verifiable. THANK-YOU
- The InvestInEd teachers who got Prop 208 on the ballot and ran a smashing campaign! THANK YOU
- Cindy McCain for her endorsement, and DJT for being such a cruel and boorish idiot that he finally pushed some lifelong Goldwater Republicans to abandon the GOP.
Wins in AZ
- We legalized pot. This will improve criminal justice in Az.
- We passed an income tax on high earners to benefit public schools.. Maybe we won’t be 49th in the nation for school funding soon!
- Mark Kelly won — a great candidate, (guess, what.. sensible gun regulations are NOT a non-starter in a purple state!) and Gabby for being Gabby.
- We held onto all our US house seats, though nationwide Dems lost some.
- We added a Dem to the corporation commission, changing the balance from 4-1 to 3-2.
- In the state house, it looks like we gained a senate seat. Republicans only have a 2 vote margin in both houses.
- We elected Gabby Cazares-Kelly to Pima county Recorder! A grassroots candidate and first Native American to hold an elected Pima County office!
There were a few losses. EG Adrian Fontes in Maricopa — Sad. A testament that DEMS NEED TO FOCUS ON DOWN-BALLOT RACES AND NOT JUST PRESIDENCY.
I’m going to sleep well tonight and take a break for a week or two.
And spend my $400 winnings from my Predictit bet on AZ going blue on a vacation. Or possibly some premium vet-crafted wild salmon kibble. I can’t decide.
And then back to work.
Finally it’s time to relax! I’ve been quite successful w/ my online activism because:
On the internet, no one knows I’m a dog!
