Not much more to say than the headline. It’s that cut and dried. And absolutely shocking (though honestly, after all the egregious racism, sexism, bullying, and general buffoonery from Gov. LePage over the years, maybe not so shocking...).
Via Vox Media:
In defending himself from accusations of racism and homophobia on Friday, Maine Gov. Paul LePage made yet another explicitly racist comment — arguing that people of color or of Hispanic origin are “the enemy” and suggesting that they should be shot.
LePage said (*diarist note — bold my emphasis):
A bad guy is a bad guy. I don’t care what color he is. When you go to war, if you know the enemy, the enemy dresses in red and you dress in blue, you shoot at red. … You shoot at the enemy. You try to identify the enemy. And the enemy right now, the overwhelming majority of people coming in are people of color or people of Hispanic origin.
And there’s video of LePage saying the comments (From Maine Democrats):
Trump is only worse than this guy because he has a shot at Presidential powers (shudders). Gov. LePage makes David Duke sound like Mr. Rogers. OK, some hyperbole there, but wow is LePage absolutely abhorrent, repulsive, and violent.
Can someone in Maine send Eliot Cutler on a round-the-world vacation in 2018 so he doesn’t fuck up a third gubernatorial election in a row, please? LePage won with only 37.6% in 2010 and 48.2% in 2014.
