Let’s perform a thought experiment. Let’s hypothesize that Bernie creams Hillary in Nevada and beats her by the slimmest of margins (or more) in SC. Bloomberg gets ready to enter the race.
What does this mean? And how does Bernie combat this new entrant?
First of all, what does it mean? Plain and simple, that the Establishment, particularly the billionaire class that supports it, has lost its trusted proxies in the race. Trump is too independent and unpredictable, while Cruz is a thoroughly detested monster, and both are too likely to lose in the general whether Hillary or Bernie is the nominee.
And Bernie? He is a threat to the stability of the oligarchy. He incites the peasants and unlike Trump, he is deliberately (and successfully) building class consciousness and showing people that the divisions by race and religion that have been sown by elites are simply a divide-and-conquer strategy. And unlike Trump and any other entrant in the race, he has been pretty consistently laying out his vision for his entire career, he walks the walk, and he means what he says. He must be stopped at all costs.
How does Bernie combat a Bloomberg entrance? The script almost writes itself:
- The billionaires are afraid, and they should be
- Their money makes them think they are entitled to tell us what is good for us, when it is really good for them
- Bloomberg wants to destroy public education, so his friends can gorge at the public trough
- Bloomberg helped build the police state in NYC that Bill de Blasio is now trying to devolve
- The Wall Street criminals couldn’t get their way with Hillary, so now one of their own has stepped up
And on, and on, and on. The only area where Bernie is really vulnerable from Bloomberg is on guns, and he can neutralize that by talking about the militarization of the NYPD.
I suspect there will be many twists and turns before the votes are all counted in November...
