So this, Bernie's selection of a new national press secretary, should end any and all discussion of whether Bernie "gets it".
Symone Sanders is a young, black, criminal justice advocate and supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. She’s also a progressive political activist right out of the Sanders mold: Her last job was at Ralph Nader’s Public Citizen. In an interview, Symone Sanders said she first connected with the senator about three weeks ago, offering him advice on how to better understand the message of Black Lives Matter activists in an hour-long chat.
So from now own, if there are any more disruptions that target just Bernie, we have to ask ourselves, who is behind them?
More discussion below.
As a white Bernie Sanders supporter, I have been tremendously frustrated. As others have pointed out, the protesters in Seattle are picking a target of convenience, who happens to be their greatest ally in the presidential contest. This is beyond short-sighted, it is literally suicidal.
Hillary sure can talk the talk, but look at her trail. She is owned by Wall Street. Did she do anything progressive while she was on the board of Walmart? Not according to the minutes of the meetings she was at. She will take people's support and things will look pretty much like they do now. IF she wins.
There is unfortunately a good chance she will not. And if that happens, you can expect an increase in all the things BLM claims to oppose. America is already crumbling. A republican win will be the end of any hope of diverting our country from its headlong plunge off the cliff.
To quote Samuel L. Jackson in his ad for Obama: Wake the FUCK UP.
Bernie has done precisely the right thing, because he recognizes the fear and anger of the black community are real and righteous. It is a measure of the man and his intentions.
UPDATE: After the so polite and thoughtful comment from "DrWho", I update the Intro to actually explain what Bernie did. Although his/her language is objectionable, his/her point about not actually introducing Bernie's new national press secretary was a valid point.
