U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals has denied former Gov. Don Siegelman's bid for a new trial. The first footnote says "Because this case has complicated facts and a complex procedural history, we narrowly tailor our background section to track the issues presented in this appeal." The case was before 11th U.S. Circuit Judges Jill Pryor, Senior Judge Peter Fay, and Senior 10th Circuit Judge David Ebel (sitting by designation) and was written by EBEL, Circuit Judge (here).
Peter Fay, nominated 1976 by President Gerald Ford, was named in a New York Times article that is linked from its companion site Jeb Bush’s Letters in the claim that Jeb lobbied his daddy H.W. to nominate Fay to the Supremes. David Ebel was nominated 1987 by President Ronald Reagan and elevated to Senior Judge by George W. Bush 2006. Fay & Ebel have sailed through their confirmations & elevations into the stratosphere of the judgment job.Not so Jill Pryor, nominated 2012 by President Obama with both of Georgia's U.S. Senators messing it all up (Saxby Chambliss and John “JOHNNY” Isakson) so that Pryor was nominated again in 2013 by President Obama.
Ebel's 26 page monograph begins:
"From 1995 to 2003, Siegelman served the State of Alabama first as Lieutenant Governor and then as Governor. During his time in office, Siegelman engaged in a range of conduct that eventually became the focal point of a state-federal criminal investigation. See United States v. Siegelman, 640 F.3d 1159, 1164, 1168 (11th Cir. 2011)"
A significant video, The Prosecution of Siegelman, was aired by 60 Minutes on Feb 24, 2008 as S.40, ep.22.
