New Jersey Governor Chris Christie made an appearance on the Hugh Hewitt radio show yesterday and made a surprising declaration:
Hewitt: On domestic law, you, you were a United States prosecutor for a long time. Right now, we've got the states of Colorado and Washington flaunting federal law by allowing people to sell dope legally. If you are the President of the United States, are you going to enforce the federal drug laws in those states?
Christie: Absolutely. I will crack down and not permit it.
Hewitt: Alright, next..
Christie: Marijuana is a gateway drug, umm, we have an enormous addiction problem in this country and we need to send very clear leadership from the White House on down to federal law enforcement–marijuana is an illegal drug under federal law and the states should not be permitted to sell it and profit from it.
Mmmmkay. Despite the fact that the
majority of Americans want to legalize marijuana and 69% of Americans believe it is less harmful than alcohol—Gov. Chris Christie says a President Chris Christie would crack down even harder.
Pssst, Gov. Christie—did you know that 68% of millennials say marijuana should be legal? Way to reach out to the younger demographic! And how about those swing state voters, like those in Colorado, Iowa and Virginia? They back legalized medical marijuana by a whopping 86-89%.
