Our nation has reached a tipping point. Income inequality has put control of our entire economy into the hands of a privileged few, who use their influence to loot the jobs, life savings, and homes of the middle class. Everyone knows something is wrong; we no longer recognize this country as a place of safety and freedom. The Republicans brought us this. We need to put them in the unemployment line.
I face an opponent with $1.4 million. I can take him out for 1% of that. But it’s not gonna come from the DCCC. I can’t really blame them, actually; like Benjamin Button, my campaign was born under unusual circumstances. It took a long time to get me on the ballot, which meant a late start fundraising, so I never had a chance to get them engaged.
If we’re going to take this seat it’s gonna be up to the bloggers writing and progressives digging the change out of their couches.
So, let’s get to it.
My opponent, Mike Rogers is all about pork. Earmarks for everyone...if they happen to be rich. The rest of you get the bill, or they arrange to push it off so your kids can pay for it all.
TARP? $700 billion pumped into the banks, which squatted on it and let the economy fold up instead of lending it sensibly. If a billionaire needs a favor so he can net another hundred million, Mike Rogers is on the case. You better help that neighbor of yours who came home from World War II with an honorable discharge - if he needs $100 for a prescription, Millionaire Mike sure as hell isn’t gonna reach into his own pocket to do that.
I’m sure I’ve said this before, but if you send me to Washington I will do everything in my power to make sure anyone who wants to work can find a job, and once they have that job they can easily access the schooling needed to get into a career. Things are going to change in our economy. I won’t kid you and tell you it’s all good. But if we have a safety net to break the fall of anyone who slips, and we lend a hand up where and when it’s needed we’ll all come through this OK. Not just the richest 1%, which seems to be the Republican plan.
This is how we do it; a diverse set of ingredients get woven together - green energy jobs, rebuilding our crumbling schools, taking care of our environment, restoring financial regulation. Cook it all up with a nice social justice glaze, then slice and serve. Notice the slices are roughly the same size and appear to be about right for an afternoon snack for a hungry adult that’s been painting, driving nails, pouring concrete, or otherwise rebuilding our nation’s crumbling infrastructure. Every work crew hired in a WPA-style national direct jobs program ought to have a lunch truck nearby that serves this sort of bacon bomb.
But a bunch of us are going to end up starving under crumbling bridges if the GOP has their way. If they take the House, the road blocking of the last two years will look like paradise compared to the mess they’ve sworn to make of President Obama’s administration.
So don’t let that happen. Help me get the $13,000 I need to win. If you’re one of those who are out of work you can still be a tremendous asset - see @caradox or @StrandedWind or @HeyWho or @nNomad_ to learn more about service opportunities that are available this cycle from the comfort of your own home.
Thank You for all you do, and keep on keeping on.
