No stranger to public service, Justin Shore is President of the Clearwater, Kansas, City Council. Clearwater is 20 miles from Wichita. About 23 minutes. Clearwater is dead center in the 93rd Kansas House District, and so is entirely within the district. But the 93rd House District also contains parts of Cheney, Goddard, Haysville, Mulvane, Peck, Viola, and (minusculely) Wichita. The District is exurban.
Justin is challenging a Wichita man, a Republican and the incumbent.
Justin has served as Treasurer of the Progressive Caucus of the Kansas Democratic Party. He serves on the state party’s Rural and Farm and Food Caucuses, and is Farm and Food Caucus Liaison to the Democratic State Committee. Justin Chairs the state party’s Local Elected Officials Council, and is Liaison between the National Democratic Municipal Officials Organization and the state party.
Justin also serves on the National League of Cities’ Small Cities Council. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Sedgwick County Extension Office, where he represents Family and Consumer Sciences on its Program Development Committee. And he serves on the Executive Committee of the Regional Economic Area Partnership, and is the REAP Representative before the Wichita Transit Advisory Board. Justin also serves on the Technical Advisory Committee of the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Justin spent his childhood and grew up in Grenola, Kansas. So he is an unusually good fit with the semi-rural 93rd. His adult work life has been in technology and education.
Justin has earned a very solid reputation among Kansans who involve themselves in elections. He has a tactile understanding of energetically registering voters and getting them to vote. He has a tactile understanding of sustained effort. He is the real thing.
Many (perhaps most) Kos readers associate Kansas mostly with Kansas’ crushing 2022 defeat of the supermajority’s abortion ban in our August primary. But the Republican supermajority lives on in the Kansas House. To this day Democratic Governor Laura Kelly’s vetoes teeter perilously close to override, defeat, and an avalanche of barbarities.
