This country is going so far to the right you won't recognize it.
- John N. Mitchell, Nixon’s jailed and disgraced Attorney General for his role in the Watergate scandal.
That’s it, I’m out of here.
I can’t take it anymore, banging my head against the wall of a solidly-built, well-oiled hate and propaganda machine.
The fuckers have ruined our country.
Once upon a time torture was evil, something only the bad guys did; now it’s a subject for reasonable debate among reasonable people.
Once upon a time bringing home POWs was a moral obligation; now it’s ok to wonder if a soldier is “worth it” because his dad has a Bin Ladenish beard;
Now there’s no turning back. The bad guys have built up an unstoppable momentum:
Ultra-deep pocketed billionaires finance the right wing and their Supreme Court stooges back them up; the GOP owns gerrymandered, impenetrable congressional districts; lockstep 24/7 reactionary bullshit on Fox News and a network of hate radio talk DJ’s dominate the discourse…
And a Democratic Party WITH NO BALLS WHATSOEVER is forever playing defense, letting the bad guys set the terms of the debate and frame the language, running away from Obama and setting themselves up for defeat by Republicans with no morals whatsoever. (Why bother telling voters “I don’t support Obama” when they can vote someone they know doesn’t support him?)
They could’ve defended ACA, trumpeting its accomplishments and calling out the scumbags for their toxic lies (“death panels”, anyone?) instead of hiding from the program and letting the lies take root.
Of course it’s all my fault; I didn’t donate $3 every time a box in a kos posting asked me to; I didn’t respond to the umpty-zillion begging cup Emails from candidates and political action committees; I didn’t make GOTV phone calls.
As if it would’ve made a difference.
Thank you spineless Democrats everywhere:
Thank you Jimmy Carter for running as a Dylan-quoting pretend new generation president, then proposing to spend billions on a shell game missile system shuttling nuclear missiles around the desert into pop-top silos:

Thank you Michael Dukakis for letting Bush Sr. get away with calling you a “card-carrying member of the ACLU” in 1988 as if you were a commie;
Thank you Bill Clinton for signing off on ending Glass-Steagall, ending broadcast equal time regulation and letting us know “the era of big government is over.” (Did you ever stop to think “little government” doesn’t mean “power to the people,” it means “bigger, badder corporations”?)
Thank you Reid and Pelosi for your useless Congressional "leadership;"
And most of all, thank you BS artist Barack Obama, for offering us “hope” and “change we can believe in,” (cf Jimmy Carter)– and then rolling over on just about everything, trying to make nice with the GOP bullies, not prosecuting crooked banksters and shrugging off your predecessor’s war crimes and impeachable offenses. (“I believe in looking forward, not back.”) Other countries prosecute and jail their criminal leaders; ours go on Fox News and the $50,000 a night after dinner speaker circuit.
I won’t be watching or listening to the news for a while – I’m even giving up Stewart and Colbert for the duration; seeing them mock the Dems’ defeat isn’t exactly what I’m in the mood for. Sometimes I think Stewart is the country’s court jester: he can mock our leaders as long as there’s no chance he’ll actually challenge them; then again, with his passion, intelligence and humor, I sometimes think he’ll run for office someday…
…so maybe there is a little, teeny-tiny bit of actual hope out there.
In the meantime I just got rid of daily kos as my home page; I can put the time I used to spend reading and responding to items here to much better use. I have a couple of personal projects that deserve my time and energy much more than this.
See you around—maybe.
