For President. Why not?!
Warren wont be challenging Hillary Clinton for Democratic Leader and thats good. I said back in May she'd be far more powerful and would have more influence by playing the long game in the Senate. I also noted some time ago my view that the presidential contest on our end is best left uneventful so that Democrats can focus more intently on the Congressional and State House problem, which is where the problem is. Warren is already proving invaluable at that task as she accurately sees whats holding up her legislation isn't the fact that she's not president. She needs a better Senate no matter who is president.
But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a presidential primary season.
Hillary Clinton will benefit from a challenge from the party left, provided its strong enough to be compelling and serious enough to be a true debate on policy and ideas. Clinton will win, but it would help sharpen her rhetoric and put her campaign through the rigors necessary to contest the general election with A game. A competitive playoff usually helps a championship caliber team.
The question is who? Or whom?
I would welcome a run by Rep. Keith Ellison actually. I think he would provide an opportunity to discuss policy and give a national platform to attacks on Congressional Republicans. He wouldnt have to actually spend any time attacking Clinton directly, just taking the attack to Republicans and firing up the Democratic base. Then he puts the question to Clinton. Clinton could either stand on the sidelines and say nothing (bad), attack ellison for attacking Republicans (worse), or find ways to nod approvingly (good). That should help Democrats everywhere in 2016 without too much internal damage.
Sen. Bernie Sanders would be alright, but im not so sure that heavy accented Brooklyn slob thing is going to sell outside of...well...Brooklyn and Vermont. Not being a Democrat doesnt help either.
There's Martin O'Malley. He's putting himself in place in case something unexpected happens or put himself on the short list for VP. Fairly milquetoast delivery on the stump, though. He wont be chosen for VP. O'Malley's campaign is one I just dont understand at all, but perhaps he's hurting for presidential caliber campaign staff. Understandable because the Clinton Operation has sucked up most of the potential key players. Although Axelrod is still out there dangling.
Anybody else?
