Today Matt Taibbi has written another exposé of our financial system; this time the SEC is in the spotlight. Apparently the SEC has been shredding investigative notes for years now.
Taibbi's central question is whether the SEC's decades long destruction of paper trails has assisted Wall Street in covering up crimes. It looks pretty damning to me.
This time the SEC may have gone too far because the commission appears to have crossed swords with NARA, the National Archives and Records Administration. What NARA may lack in terms of teeth could be made up for by sheer determination that is common in the culture of archivists. I apologize for the short nature of this diary, but this article is definitely worth reading.
