Following are excerpts of a New York Times interview with Sharron Angle, the Republican candidate challenging Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, conducted at her campaign office in North Las Vegas last Thursday:
Q. Did you or your campaign do anything wrong in those first couple of months?
A. I don’t think so.
Wow, it takes a special kind of crazy to come up with that answer. Evidently she's forgotten about this, that and the other thing (to name just a few).
Q. Do you think that politically you are too conservative for this state? Obviously not for the Republican primary, but for this state?
A. People have always said — those words, ‘too conservative,’ is fairly relative. I’m sure that they probably said that about Thomas Jefferson and George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.
Yes, she did just compare herself to Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Ben Franklin.
...And truly, when you look at the Constitution and our founding fathers and their writings, the things that made this country great, you might draw those conclusions: That they were conservative. They were fiscally conservative and socially conservative.
Q. Do you think you are more conservative than independent voters in this state?
A. I think the issue really is the economy, and when we start talking about 14.2 percent unemployment and the highest foreclosure rate in the nation, the highest rate of bankruptcy.
SNIP
Mainstream Nevadans are very, very concerned about the economy, our homes, our jobs. And we lay all that at Harry Reid’s doorstep
Ahem...
Q. How would you rate him as a president after the first two years?
A. Certainly he would try to say that he inherited the problems of the economy. But the last 18 months and his policies has shown that he is out of touch with what makes an economy thrive.
We know what creates a thriving economy. Reagan. A perfect example of thriving economies.
Oh, good Christ, not again. Let me explain it one more time:
Q. Does the second President Bush deserve any blame for the deficit?
A. Well, certainly I didn’t agree with the stimulus. I don’t agree with it, but I didn’t agree with it then.
Ummm, I think you mean TARP. The Stimulus is that thing that was passed by the Obama administration that brought $2,553,412,309 into Nevada to create or retain 9,290 jobs. Of course, the Stimulus, Medicare and Social Security are all part and parcel of Socialamalism eh, Sharron?
Q. So in other words, you think he does deserve some?
A. The solution to our problems is pay back on the debt, cut back on the spending and take back our economy by reducing marginal tax rates and also regulation. And I don’t think any of that policy was really being put in place when it came to spending. We saw that throughout our government.
So...you wanna pay back our debt and cut back on spending by reducing marginal tax rates? Oh that's right, you're from Republican-La-La Land (also known as Dumbfuckistan) where cutting taxes cures all of our ills - including but not limited to - reducing deficits, increasing jobs and cleaning your oven.
Q. How do you feel about gambling, because Senator Reid doesn’t gamble?
A. I used to gamble when I was young. I’m wiser now. It’s not that it’s wrong. Certainly tourism runs our state, and it is a form of leisure entertainment. However, when you have lived in this state as long as I have, over 55 years, my father taught us at a very young age that it is the house that is the winner.
Actually Mrs. Angle, in this case, it will be the Senate - not the House - that wins because you're going to lose and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will be keeping his job. In other words,
