In light of the latest polls (
here and
here), not to mention the latest
local ethics circus it shouldn't be a surprise that (from Lois Murphy's
web site):
Gerlach, Fitzpatrick and Weldon afraid to debate Democratic Candidates on the Issues
Narberth, PA - Congressmen Jim Gerlach, Mike Fitzpatrick and Curt Weldon seem to be running scared from the issues and hiding behind massive negative ad buys from the National Republican Congressional Committee. As reported on WPVI Channel 6, Congressmen Jim Gerlach, Mike Fitzpatrick and Curt Weldon have all pulled out of televised debates with their opponents Lois Murphy, Patrick Murphy and Joe Sestak.
Everyone, around here (PA-06) anyway, has known for a long while that Gerlach would be on the ropes, and it sure is great to see Lois with a larger-than-the-margin lead in the race, but I don't think anyone expected the specter of a SE PA trifecta.
When Patrick Murphy started making the rounds in the summer of '05 (I met him at the MontCo DFA's Social Security 70th B-day party) I couldn't help but think, wouldn't it be great if we could score a two run homer - unlikely, but it'd be great!
And then, who steps up to the plate as a surprise pinch hitter but Joe Sestak to take on Mr. Firefighter. Well, well, well, lookie here, the three stooges wanna-bees, Gerlach, Fitzpatrick and Weldon are ducking for cover faster than a number nine hitter facing a Goose Gossach brush-back fire-ball (sorry - I grew up in North Jersey...).
Things sure are looking up here in SE PA - let's hope these GOP candidate's numbers continue to fade along with their courage.
Of course as every Phillies and Flyers fan know, it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings, so lay down those bets ladies and gentlemen and let's bring in that SE PA triple crown, Lois Murphy for Congress, Patrick Murphy06 for Congress and Sestak for Congress.
PS Sorry about the multiple mixed sporting metaphors...
