  •  Wouldn't light orange and yellow be the same? (0+ / 0-)

    Maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but it seems like requiring one term of absence between runs is the same as limiting terms to two out of three terms.

    •  No, the difference is this (0+ / 0-)

      In the yellow, you could serve one term, retire/be defeated, and then run and serve two terms consecutive terms.

      The light orange, on the other hand, you could serve one term, sit one term out, and then get elected to another term, but after that term you would reach term limits and have to sit out another 4 years.

      It's an obscure limitation that very few people would ever come up against, but it's there.

        I can see what you're saying, but it still seems like in that latter case, this fourth term would fall outside the 12-year window (serve/don't serve/serve).

          Hm. Never thought about it that closely. I honestly don't know at this point now.
