Yep. Quite a few of our elected officials supported the invasion of Iraq. Many voted to authorize it. Yes, some of them had better intentions than the Administration (be fair), but something like half of our Democratic Senators voted for it. Obviously, they were wrong. Big time. Seriously, this is about the biggest fuckup there is or could ever be. No, I haven't forgotten it, and no I haven't forgiven them. John Kerry, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Evan Bayh, even Max Cleland (if I recall correctly).
They fucked up. But we cannot blacklist these people. We cannot ignore the good they have done or can do. They are good Democrats, and in their own ways do us all great credit. We can't simply say that because they made such a large mistake they are unfit to serve in the cabinet, or that by choosing such people Barack Obama undercuts his own core message. He isn't betraying his earliest supporters by (potentially) selecting Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State.
You guys are completely and utterly missing the point, those of you who argue this is a betrayal, a sign of weakness, or an injustice.
