I can't believe I've almost let this day go by without making some remarks regarding it. After all, it the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Great War back in '64 that piqued what was then a dormant passion for history, It was during that '64-65 year there was an episodic documentary on CBS with an episode every Sunday evening for an entire TV season as seasons were back then. I believe it was 26 episodes. It was narrated with great skill by the fine actor, Robert Ryan and it touched me to such a degree that World War One is still probably my greatest interest of any historical event. If any of you wish to pick up on this most affective of great events of the 20th century (without WWI we'd be living in a most different world today) I'd recommend starting with the very fine history of the beginning of the War called "The Guns of August" by the great historian, Barbara Tuchman. There simply is no better book chronicling the events that got the great conflict going. It's a known fact that JFK read this book on its publication in August 1962 and it had a profound influence on his conduct of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It's quite possible then that "Guns" may be the only history book in er, umm, History that greatly affected History as it very well may have played a part in avoiding the destruction of the entire world! Join me below the iron cheeto for some more observations. . .
There was always a fringe in this country who believed this shit but with it being codified into a massive propaganda and disinfo campaign over a 40 year period utilizing the fortunes of known Billionaire fascists- the Coors, the Kochs, the Scaifes, and on and on until these have become the core motivating beliefs of a large majority of Repukes and I dare say you'd find elements of it present in most white people's opinions.
I have a client, a very sweet 85 year old lady who sends me these wingnut e-gandas and she believes them as if they were handed down from the mount. It strikes me if they've managed to get kind older ladies to believe this hateful nonsense and literally seethe with anger, I have to wonder if most white people, after this 40 year onslaught of propaganda, are even redeemable from the ocean of lies they swim about in.
These once fringe opinions have become so mainstream it goes around now in email form, landing in the in boxes of countless bobble headed wingnuts going "yup, it's those damn (insert favorite scapegoat here) wrecking our country!".
So join me below the whatever color that squigglythingamajigger is without further comment, here it is. It is to simply shake one's head and mutter sad expletives about the relative intelligence of white Americans.
You know the emails I'm talking about, the ones that claim the President is everything from a Maoist Mau Mau to a Commie Abortionist or those that breathlessly expose some gasp horrible Democratic politician's wrong doing like the person third in line to the Presidency actually having military air transport. But the ones that really make me angry are those in support of the Plutocracy using the hateful divide and conquer strategy that try to direct people's anger instead of at the Plutocracy but at the most helpless in our society, the poor.

In a diary posted yesterday regarding the massacre of 24 innocents in the Iraqi town of Haditha, the diarist made an error common to those not familiar with Military nomenclature. I don't mean to call that diarist out or even to criticize him or her, my intention here is to use the mis-application of the word "soldier" to launch into an examination of the larger issues at hand.
All seven other soldiers
It's Marines not soldiers. I have seen Marines, (and living next door to Camp Pendleton for 55 years as I have, I've seen a lot of curious behavior from these "elite" fighting men), beat the living shit out of a guy for making this same mistake in nomenclature and not taking seriously his verbal correction. Nothing at all surprises me about this "incident" in Haditha nor the lack of applied justice received from this proceeding in Military law.
I was just foolin' around in my profile when I noticed I had originally joined on December 12th, 2004. Actually, I had joined a year earlier but was sidetracked starting a new business and by the time I was ready to participate again, I'd forgotten that previous login. So on this day seven years past I made a new one, Dave925 and haven't ever forgotten that one.
Once targeted and taken into the fold by the Goopers as a future apparatchik of the far right, I'll take some of the credit for turning my nephew, Chris, away from that sorry fate.
Over the past 10 years. I was only trying to win holiday arguments but between the books I've given him and the arguments I've employed it looks like that modest goal has been overshot and I've created something of a Progressive Activist.
This is not to take away from Chris' own character and talent since he has always been and is now sincerely motivated by what he believes to be the best for the most. It's just he had fallen in with some moderately powerful Pukes (he interned for a wingnut congresscritter, since retired, the summer before his senior year of college) and never heard the truth until I started discussing political matters and policies with him.
Now he's gone off and written the script for a documentary regarding net neutrality. He's assembled a production team and got the project well into pre-production. I'm really quite impressed with what he's been able to do in a short time on a teacher's pay. The production team has a trailer up now and they're doing the hard work of raising the funds to make this film a reality. Here's the link and if you can, please consider pledging something towards their goal. No pledge will actually be charged unless they reach their goal of a $150,000 by July 2nd or 3rd. That's really a modest amount to make a film with but Chris has always been a thrifty sort who can really stretch a dollar, in fact, that whole side of the family is like that!
It's come down to brass tacks and Chris & Co. after having busted their butts are still some ways from their funding goal. Please visit the pledge site, watch the trailer and if you find it worthy, please pledge something and most importantly, pass it around among friends, family and other blogs you visit. Thanks so much in advance, I know the great people we have here on this site can do nothing but good for Chris and his associates.
I'm no lawyer, I'm just a middle-aged liberal who has watched these past 50 years as my country went from being secretly manipulated by big money to having it compromised right out in the open and in our faces. I don't know about the legalities of what I am about to post up here nor do I care. I only know right from wrong and what's been going on is wrong beyond measure. Nothing illustrates this better than what has been revealed so far about the disaster in the Gulf.
Here's how we could begin to make it right. This is what I feel a President should do to commence the process of re-claiming our government from the clutches of Corporations. Sadly, I don't see any of it happening and for that, I am truly sorry. But I can dream and here's what that dream looks like.
The infamous Korean War Chi-Coms and their "brainwashing" techiques are revealed to be once more, one of the authoritarian playbooks of the GOP. The 3 hour hates conducted by the Cystboy and Hannity with lesser luminaries filling in the other 21 hours for the cultees' convenience- That's straight out of the Korean War. It works too.
There's more. . .
With six candidates competing for the party's helm at the winter meetings this week, some committee members are determined to remove the current RNC chairman, Mike Duncan, who is seen as a candidate of the status quo at a time when they want to sever all ties to the former president. Duncan has held the office since 2007, when he ran unopposed after Bush chose him for the post.
Duncan "has never criticized Bush when the president was wrong," said Shawn Steel, an RNC member from California. "He's the agent of the establishment, and we need a change in personnel."
Let's take a closer look at what goes on in the typical "Conservative" mind after the fold. . .
Pulitzer Prize nominated author Robert Parry left the TM years ago when it became apparent the TM had no interest in upholding any of the values of REAL Journalism. He started his own investigative reporting news site in 1995 in an effort to begin a "progressive" media infrastructure to counter balance the vast media resources of the far right wing. Suffice to say had he received ample funding back then from heavy hitter "liberal" donors or simply a few thousands of people like us, we very well might not have had to endure the horror of these past 8 years.
Follow me after the fold or DONATE HERE Autographed Books available at $50 and $100 levels- Great works revealing the vast crimes of the Bushes and the GOP in general
45 years ago today, the naked Fascist era of American Ruling Class Depedations began.
I know we say it every year, but it does seem like yesterday and at the same time, another time and place altogether.
45 Years ago at the moment I am posting this, JFK had a little less than two and a half hours to live. A little less than two and a half hours before the crime that launched these last 45 years of crimes against the nation, its people and the world at large, occurred.
To think of what was destroyed only keeps the heartbreak of that day fresh in our minds. It is a wound that will never heal.
I had gone to bed right as the state was called for RFK, it was late to be up for a 14 year old high school Freshman so I didn't see anything that had happened afterwards. It was a big night for me, I was so happy RFK had won and on the following morning of the 6th, a little personal victory for me was slated as well. I was going to be sworn in as class president for our upcoming Sophomore year. I had been on cloud 9 for a week since my own little landslide victory.
